I hope you enjoy the gifted program information, updates on classroom activities, and pictures that will appear here this year. On my first visit to each K-1 class, I introduce myself and explain to the children that my job is to help them add wrinkles to their brains by planning challenging activities. After all, we need challenges to develop wrinkly raisin brains.
We spend 30 minutes a week together working on a variety of activities, most often starting with an engaging story. These activities to help students develop their problem solving, critical thinking, and creative thinking skills.
The teacher, assistant, and I take notes on what the children say or do that stands out during the lessons. These notes will be saved and may be used for gifted referrals in 1 - 5th grade. VBCPS does not test kindergartners for gifted services, giving them an additional year to develop their thinking skills before screening, and possibly testing, in 1st grade.
