First graders were also taken into the garden to extend our work as scientists. I was surprised and thrilled to find that all but a few 1st graders already knew how to take pictures with an iPad. Armed with iPads, magnifying glasses, and bug catchers, these young scientists worked in small groups, each student used the iPad to take a picture of something he or she found interesting in the gardenand we returned to the classroom.
Once in the room, the small groups decided on which picture they'd taken to use for their analysis and completed their observation sheets. Using the technology really helped as the weather grew too chilly and rainy for more than a quick trip for pictures before hustling back in. As you can see, the children were totally engrossed in their work.
